Mediate gets last spot in U.S. Open field

06/13/2010 - Pebble Beach, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Rocco Mediate, who had an epic playoff with Tiger Woods two years ago, was given the final spot in the field for the 110th U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Mediate had been the first alternate and when no one qualified by winning the St. Jude Classic on Sunday, Mediate was given the final spot in the field.

The 47-year-old Mediate will play alongside Graeme McDowell and 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel for the first two rounds.

Mediate had tried to qualify in Columbus, Ohio the day after The Memorial, but lost a six-way playoff for five spots. That earned him the first alternate spot and now a place in the field at Pebble Beach.

It has been a tough season for Mediate, who has made the cut just three times in 14 starts this year.

In 2008, Mediate and Woods waged an epic battle at Torrey Pines. Woods, playing with an injured leg, needed a Monday playoff to best Mediate.

Woods birdied the 90th hole to tie Mediate as they both posted even-par 71s. Mediate made a mess of the 91st hole, while Woods made a routine par to win his third U.S. Open title.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
