08/13/2010 - Harrison, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Red Bull New York will have all three of its designated players available Saturday, when the David Beckham-less Los Angeles Galaxy visit Red Bull Arena in Major League Soccer.
Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez and Juan Pablo Angel joined forces for the first time Sunday in a 0-0 tie against the Chicago Fire and, after a 1-0 home win on Wednesday against Toronto FC without Marquez, the trio reunites against L.A.
Los Angeles (12-3-4) has just two wins in its last five matches, but still has the best record in MLS and leads Real Salt Lake by four points in the Western Conference.
New York (9-6-3) is unbeaten in three matches, including two ties on the road, and sits second in the Eastern Conference. The Red Bulls are six points behind Columbus, but opened a five-point lead over third-place Toronto this week.
With the addition of former French star Henry and Mexican captain Marquez, the Red Bulls have evolved into the team to beat in MLS over the remainder of the season.
New York was already having a strong year with Angel shouldering the load, and now the 11-goal scorer has the support to overtake L.A.'s Edson Buddle for the overall scoring lead. Buddle leads MLS with 12 goals.
The Red Bulls escaped the second of three games in six days Wednesday without goalie Bouna Coundoul, left back Roy Miller and midfielder Dane Richards also, as coach Hans Backe's club showed off their depth.
"The players have more experience, so it is easier to come into a game after not playing awhile," New York's Danleigh Borman told MLSSoccer.com. "We are comfortable with each other because of those games where everybody gets a chance to play. So it's really not that hard for someone that doesn't normally start."
Henry played the full 90 minutes in his MLS debut against Houston but has only played the first half of New York's last two matches. Henry should be able to play into the second half against L.A.
Marquez played for Mexico in a friendly against Spain on Wednesday, a 1-1 tie, so his minutes could be limited this weekend as well.
The Red Bulls are 6-2-1 at home, but the Galaxy have twice as many wins on the road as any team in MLS this season with six wins and two draws in 10 matches.
Landon Donovan and Buddle were with the U.S. for Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Brazil, as well as young center back Omar Gonzalez, who made his international debut.
L.A.'s defense has been incredible for most of the season, but the Galaxy have not posted a shutout in their last five matches and have allowed nine goals in that stretch. L.A. gave up just four goals in its first 14 matches.
Although L.A. has put together the best record without Beckham, the ex-England captain returned to training Wednesday with a late-season return targeted. He tore his Achilles tendon in March while on loan at AC Milan, but would provide a boost in the last month of the regular season if he is able to return.
"It's very, very good for the Galaxy knowing that there's a possibility we'll get a healthy David Beckham back before the end of the season," Los Angeles midfielder Chris Klein told the league's website.
